The sculpture I chose is Brisas by Edgardo Carmona, this sculpture is placed in Downtown Fort Myers. Brisas is a full round sculpture made of iron, and stands about 10 feet tall. The subject of the sculpture is a person fishing. The person shown in the sculpture is sitting on a stool with a bucket in front of them and there is a fish jumping out of the bucket. The fishing pole is missing from the sculpture, but the pole was positioned in the person’s hands and the line from the pole was connected to the fish in the bucket. The sculpture is placed near water. There are other sculptures by the same artist placed throughout downtown Fort Myers. The other sculptures by Carmona in the area show historical content and some show activities that may be relatable to the viewer. Brisas shows an activity that may be relatable to the viewer. This sculpture is placed near water, and there are piers nearby where people often fish. Fishing is a common activity in communities near water so many viewers in the area may find the subject of Brisas to be relatable. 

The painting I chose is Interrogation by Ali Banisadr.

What drew me to this painting was the bright colors. This painting feels very chaotic, there are lines going in every direction and a broad range of colors are used. This painting seems to show a landscape, the sun at the top toward the middle. A blue sky which seems to be covered in smoke. The use of dark grey paint that looks fluid makes it look sticky like think black smoke. Over the dark grey paint, white paint is used the white looks light and fluffy like smoke. In the middle of the painting coming from the left side, it looks like there is a stream of water. The bottom half of the painting looks like grass and this is the most chaotic part of the painting. At the very bottom of the painting there are details which show strands of grass. The bottom half of the painting uses a range of colors, there are blobs of dull colors and on top of that there are lines of saturated colors swirling around in different directions. The blobs of color seem to represent individual figures, but they are in clusters. On the some of the figures there are bold pops of saturated red. This painting seems to depict chaos in a specific place, it looks like it is showing a war or battle. Although there are bright colors used in the painting, it has an overall dark feeling to it. 

The piece I chose is “Bathers at La Grenouillère” by Claude Monet.

What I like about this painting is that when stepping back the painting is very detailed and seems pretty realistic. However when getting closer to the painting it does not look very detailed. This painting just establishes colors, and harsh lines are not used. This painting shows movement because the details are loose, if finer details were put into the painting it might feel more stiff more like a photo. The colors used in this painting is one of the reasons it looks almost realistic from afar. The elements closer to the viewer, like the boats and the water have more detail than the elements farther away in the painting, like the people in the water behind the bridge. The water and the boats use a range of colors, while the people farther away in the painting are represented by white figures.

This painting expresses a theme of humans interacting with the natural world. This is done by showing people gathered and enjoying nature by swimming and walking. This painting speaks to my love of nature. I love being out in nature and looking at this painting makes me feel like I am there.
